Okay so firstly what's all the fuss about organic cotton, and why is it important for baby clothing and sleepwear? Well the short answer is that it's softer while somehow being more durable, its the best fabric for newborn sensitive skin as it hasn't been through harsh chemical processing and has no nasty toxic chemicals to hurt or irritate brand new skin. And because there are no chemical used in the manufacturing process, it is also better for the environment.
Now I know that ideally we want to use New Zealand made products to support local business and ensure that we keep true to our highest possible standards. however, when you buy off-shore then you really want to make sure you are buying from a company that supports FairTrade. Wikipedia describes FairTrade as a "social movement whose stated goal is to help producers in developing countries achieving better trading conditions and to promote sustainability. Members of the movement advocate the payment of higher prices to exporters, as well as improved social and environmental standards". So in a nutshell - when you buy FairTrade, everyone gets a FairTrade!
